Czechia Plans New Residency Program for High-Income Ukrainian Refugees
Czechia is planning to introduce a new long-term residence permit for high-income Ukrainian refugees who meet specific criteria. Refugees could qualify for this special permit if:
- They have lived in Czechia for at least two years
- Have not received humanitarian aid since July
- Have an annual gross income of 440,000 CZK (€18,480) or more
For each additional family member, the required income increases by 110,000 CZK (€4,400), according to Adovaktin Denik.
The government will finalize the regulation after February 18, and once approved, refugees could apply for permanent residence after five years under the same rules as other foreign nationals.
Refugee Statistics in Czechia
Figures from the Ministry of the Interior indicate that since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, until February 9, 2025, 396,700 Ukrainian refugees have received temporary protection in Czechia.
Among them:
- 96,700 are children
- 17,600 are over 65
- 171,000 are women, and 111,400 are men of working age

According to Eurostat, nearly 4.3 million non-EU nationals had temporary protection status in the EU by December 2024. Czechia ranks among the top EU countries hosting the highest number of Ukrainians under temporary protection. Compared to the previous month, the number of individuals with temporary protection status in the EU increased by 25,590 or 0.6 per cent.
