Estonia Adds Several More EU Countries to Its List of COVID-19 High-Risk Areas
Citizens of 27 countries will be subject to the 10-day restriction on freedom of movement upon their arrival in Estonia, as these territories have reported an infection rate of more than 150 people per 100,000 inhabitants in the past two weeks, the country’s government has announced.
According to the statement, the following countries have been affected by Estonia’s recent decision:
- Schengen Zone countries: Austria, Czech Republic, Belgium, Poland, Norway, France, Slovenia, Slovakia, Switzerland, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Finland, Malta, Germany, Latvia, Sweden, Denmark, Greece, Lithuania.
- European countries: Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria, Cyprus.
- Microstates: Andorra, Monaco, San Marino.
All persons who belong to any of the countries mentioned above and wish to enter Estonia must be aware of the restriction on the freedom of movement rule, which will be effective from March 29 until April 4, AtoZSerwisPlus.Pl reports.
Some other countries like Spain, Liechtenstein, Portugal, Ireland as well as the United Kingdom, have reported an infection rate of fewer than 150 people per 100,000 inhabitants in the past 14 days; therefore, they can enter Estonia without this additional requirement, the government’s statement clarifies.
Latvia and Lithuania citizens wishing to enter Estonia will be permitted to do so if they do not show any COVID-19 symptoms; however, they must present a negative result of the Coronavirus test, not older than 72 hours, upon their arrival.
Citizens coming from both territories mentioned above who wish to enter Estonia in order to pursue their studies or to work will be permitted to complete their duties without being subject to any restrictions or test requirements upon their arrival in Estonia.
Up to this point, Estonia has reported 102,738 infection cases and 860 deaths, based on Worldometers’ statistics.
The same source reveals that over 76,631 have fully recovered from the virus since the beginning of the pandemic, while there are 25,247 active cases of COVID-19 infection in Estonia.
In its previous announcement, Estonia’s government clarified which countries will be subject to the 10-day restriction on freedom of movement rule, from March 22 until March 28.
Estonia’s Prime Minister Kaja Kallas recently stressed that the country “everything possible to stop the coronavirus spread in Estonia has been done and that all that is left to be done is to see whether more vaccines and restrictions will have their effect.”
Authorities in the country have imposed such preventive measures several times in an effort to contain the spread of the virus and protect its citizens’ health amid the rapid spread of new variants of the disease, which have affected many persons in countries worldwide.
