EU Adds 3 Iranian Individuals and 1 Entity to Sanctions List for Using Drones in Russian Aggression
These three individuals, as well as the entity, have been added to the sanctions list for undermining the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence of Ukraine, AtoZSerwisPlus.pl reports.
According to the Council, the decision to add them to the sanctions list is in view of their roles in the development and delivery of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles used by Russia in its war against Ukraine.
In addition, the Council pointed out that the decision is a signal of the EU’s determination to respond to the actions of Iran in support of Russia and emphasised that the EU will continue to respond to similar actions in the future.
“Today’s decision is a signal of the EU’s resolve to respond swiftly and decisively to Iran’s actions supporting Russian aggression against Ukraine. The EU condemns the delivery of Iranian drones to Russia and their deadly deployment in the war of aggression against Ukraine. The EU will continue to respond to all actions supporting Russian aggression,” the statement of the Council reads.
The Council explains that the three individuals, as well as the entity that has been added to the sanctions list, are now subject to an asset freeze, and European Union citizens and companies are prohibited from making funds available to them.
Moreover, those designated are also subject to a travel ban, which means that the three individuals are forbidden from entering or transiting through the territory of the EU.
Apart from the above-mentioned, the Council has also signalled that it wants to impose restrictive measures against another two individuals and two entities on the same grounds.
The EU authorities have reacted firmly to the Russian military aggression against Ukraine since February 24. Until now, the EU has added tens of individuals and entities to its sanctions list and has adopted a number of unprecedented and hard-hitting packages of sanctions.
In addition, the EU continues to urge Russia to immediately stop its attacks against civilians and to immediately withdraw its troops and military equipment from Ukraine’s territory.
