EU Extends Entry Ban for Over 2,200 Russian Individuals and Entities for Another 6 Months
As the Council revealed, the sanctions that target individuals and entities undermining the independence, integrity, and sovereignty of Ukraine will continue to apply for another six months, until March 5, 2025, AtoZSerwisPlus reports.
Currently, part of the sanctions list are more than 2,200 people and entities. The extension of the travel restrictions means that all natural persons targeted will continue to be banned from entering the territory of the Schengen Area until the measure is dropped.
Moreover, the assets of targeted individuals and entities will remain frozen, and a ban on making funds available to them will continue to remain effective.
In addition to prolonging the restrictive measures, the Council also renewed the listing of two individuals and, at the same time, also removed deceased people from it.
The EU has been applying measures to certain Russian individuals and entities since 2022, following the war in Ukraine.
The aim of the measures against Russia, according to the Council, is to weaken Russia’s economic base and deprive the country of critical markets and technologies, among others.
While the EU continues to apply sanctions against Russia, it has once again reconfirmed its support for Ukraine.
Some EU Countries Have Announced Tightened Measures for Russian Citizens
In addition to the EU, some member states also have strict rules in place for citizens of Russia. Finland is one of the countries that currently has effective restrictions on Russia.
Just recently, the Finnish authorities said that the country plans to ban Russians from purchasing properties in Finland. Even though this measure has not been implemented yet, its launch is expected to affect many who plan to own real estate in Finland.
Czechia also keeps strict restrictions in place for Russians, and just recently, a proposal was put forward to tighten the citizenship rules for nationals of Russia.
The Elders and Independents said that the government should not grant Czech citizenship to Russians who do not give up their Russian citizenship. Data show that Russians represented around 20 per cent of the total foreign population granted Czech citizenship between 2019 and 2022.
Most EU countries currently also do not issue visas for Russian citizens, making it impossible for them to reach the bloc.
