Foreign Workers Can Now Take up Employment in Slovakia Faster
The new rules are mainly aimed at speeding up the process of employment for foreigners in Slovakia and, at the same time, targeting labour shortages that the country is experiencing in several sectors across its territory, AtoZSerwisPlus reports.
Previously, foreigners who wanted to apply for a residence permit for the purpose of working in Slovakia had to go through a prolonged procedure, which included a positive opinion from the labour office after filing a request to the police.
In line with the new rules, the process will be significantly accelerated, with the authorities saying the applications will be processed within two to three months instead of the previous one year and a half.
While the employer in Slovakia will still be required to receive an opinion from the labour office, this opinion will now be received before the foreign worker applies for a residence permit so that they are able to enter Slovakia faster.
As SME explains, the move to receive the decision before the foreign worker applies for a residence permit has been applauded by the Head of SlovakiaInvest Group, Milan Kurota.
He said that that it is important that foreign workers know in advance whether the labour office has given them permission to work in the country so that they do not waste money to apply for a residence permit in case they receive a rejection.
Slovakia Eased National Visa Rules for Non-EU Workers on July 15
On July 15, 2024, Slovakia started to apply facilitated national visa rules for workers from foreign countries.
National visas to foreign workers who have a profession in a sector that is dealing with shortages will be issued or a one-year period.
Easier access to Slovakia’s national visa will be given to foreign cooks, agronomists, bakers, breeders, equipment operators, kitchen workers, learners, and assembly workers, among many others.
However, the authorities have emphasised that easier access to the country’s national visa will not be given to all foreigners. Only nationals of some select countries are eligible to obtain Slovakia’s national visa under simplified conditions.
