Former British MP Furious He Has to Wait “Too Long” at the Borders to Enter EU Post-Brexit
Sir Godfrey Lawson, a former MP of for Pennineshire and His Majesty’s Treasury, has shared on his official account on social media X, his most recent experience when travelling to the European Union, claiming he was treated like a second-class citizen, AtoZSerwisPlus reports.
After first joining a really long waiting line at the airport, the name of which he did not specify, on which EU nationals were lined, Lawson was led to a separate queue for non-EU nations by the airport workers. While he expected the new line to be shorter and quicker, he was surprised to be confronted with the contrary.
Post-Brexit, UK Nationals Are Categorised as Third-Country Citizens to EU
After the United Kingdom completed its transition period for the formal separation from the EU on December 31, 2020, all EU Member States started categorising UK nationals as third-country citizens.
This means that Britons were no longer eligible to use the same benefits as the nationals of EU, countries, such as waiting in separate lines from the nationals of other world countries and being able to cross the EU external borders with only an ID.
Since then, many British nationals remain unaware of the benefits that they have lost and often join EU lines at the airports.
The former MP was ridiculed by X users for his fury, some of them telling him “Well if it isn’t the consequences of your actions.”
The majority of those commenting remind Lawson that leaving the EU meant becoming a third country to the block, while several others called his post “ironic”
An X user under the handler @WazSwindlehurst wrote “I’m assuming this is what people meant when they said they wanted their country back and control of their borders. Seems like that France is controlling its borders with a similar vigour.”
It is actually possible that Lawson wrote this post as a parody to those complaining of the post-Brexit reality, as his account bio amongst others also reads “Now retired and parodical satirical parody.”
