Kosovar Nationals to Save Up Millions Yearly After Visa Liberalisation
Starting in 2024, Kosovars will be able to travel visa-free to Schengen countries, thus, no amounts of money have to be spent on visa fees, which cost around €35 for application alone.
The expenses are even higher as visa application centres charge even more for services involved in the application process, with the amount of money spent for visa applications by Kosovar nationals sometimes totalling €150 to €200, while the average wage in Kosovo is around €250, AtoZSerwisPlus.pl reports.
Schengen Statistics show that 121,97 visa applications were filed by Kosovar nationals in 2022, indicating that €4.2 million were spent for fees, with €478,590 going up in smoke as 13,674 applications were rejected.
In the same year, visa applications were filed by Kosovar nationals, recording an all-time high and these numbers would risk going even higher as people are increasingly more keen to travel to the borderless area.
In the last nine-year period, Kosovars have spent approximately a total of €22.3 million on visa applications, with the highest expenses being recorded in post and pre-pandemic times, 2022 and 2019 namely, with 108,774 visa applications being filed in 2019 alone.
The increasing number of visa applications filed plummeted during the pandemic times, with 24,566 and 44,666 applications being filed in 2020 and 2021, respectively, totalling €2.4 million in visa fees.
Furthermore, the average number of applications filed from 2014 to 2022 is 71,860, which totals up to €2.5 million visa applications. However, the expenses would be considered even higher in the pre-pandemic times during which, despite the fact that fewer applications were filed, the rejection rate was considerably higher than after 2020.
More specifically, the rejection rate in 2014 was 24 per cent, with 17,831 applications for visas being denied. Similarly, the rejection rate was 19.6 per cent in the following year and around the same rates for the years to come, while those dropped slightly in the post-pandemic period as only 11.2 per cent of applications were rejected – representing 13,674 applications out of a total of 121,972.
In the last year, 102, 017 visa applications were successful, enabling Kosovar applicants to visit the Schengen Area, while the total number of multi-entry applications that received a positive answer was 4,360.
