Lithuania: Travellers From Cyprus, Poland and Palestine Are Now Subject to Stricter Quarantine Rules
Lithuania’s government has added Cyprus, Poland, and Palestine to the list of countries that are subject to stricter quarantine rules due to an increase in the recently reported number of Coronavirus infections.
In addition to that, authorities in Lithuania have announced that from now on, all persons who are exempted from compulsory self-isolation requirements will be obliged to present a negative result of the Coronavirus test, AtoZSerwisPlus.Pl reports.
Based on the figures of the Coronavirus pandemic situation in countries worldwide, published by Worldometers, Lithuania is the 64th country with 210,202 reported Coronavirus cases of the infection since the beginning of the pandemic.
The same source reveals that 3,501 have died from the virus in Lithuania, while 195,115 persons have totally recovered. Still, there are more than 11,580 active cases in the country.
In an effort to contain the further spread of the Coronavirus pandemic, the country’s government announced that it extended the lockdown measures for another month until April.
The announcement was made by Prime Minister Ingrida Simonite, who said that “probably most or even all of us expected a week ago that we’d be able to take other decisions this week,” adding that “it’s a pity that the circumstances don’t allow us to go ahead according to the plan we’ve approved.”
However, even though lockdown was prolonged until April, Lithuania authorities confirmed that a face mask would not be compulsory while stressing that travel between cities will also be permitted.
In mid-March, the country’s government added Hungary, Sweden, and Jordan to the list of countries where stricter COVID-19 control measures are applied, which decision became effective on March 15.
Earlier this month, two other European countries were added to Lithuania’s COVID-19 high-risk list. Malta and Serbia were considered profoundly affected by the virus, an estimation of Lithuania’s authorities concluded.
Arrivals from both countries are required to follow stricter self-isolation rules when entering Lithuania.
Lithuanian authorities previously announced that they would keep all countries on the Coronavirus list of affected territories after the mount in the number of infections reported in many countries worldwide.
However, all persons coming from abroad to Lithuania will no longer need to stay self-isolated for 14 days, as the Ministry of Health confirmed that it shortened the quarantine period to 10 days, in order to facilitate their travel process.
