Russian Visitors Prefer EU Destinations for This Summer Season as Demand Increased to 30%
According to the vice president of the Russian Union of Travel Industry, Dmitry Gorin, Russian citizens are more likely to travel to the most popular places that usually welcome a large number of tourists during the summer season, such as Greece, Hungary, Cyprus, Montenegro, Italy, Spain, and France, AtoZSerwisPlus reports.
Italy Received & Granted Most Visas to Russian Applicants
The growing demand for a Schengen visa comes after the relaxed rules that some member states have begun applying to Russian applicants.
Italy ranked among the EU countries that issued the most visas in 2023. The latter issued a total of 143,500 visas for Russian citizens during that period. Out of this total, 93.4 per cent of requests received positive responses.
The same also emphasized that in 2019, Russia registered up to four million visas, while another 449,000 were approved in 2023. On the other hand, the number of multiple-entry visas is declining, as it still stands at 49 per cent of all visas.
Bookings to Spain & Italy Are Now Made 1 to 2 Months in Advance Due to Cost Minimisation
Gorin further advised that all those tourists who plan to travel to Europe should prepare a complete package of documents in advance, explaining that now reservations for well-known destinations such as Spain, France, and Italy are made one to two months in advance. Trips that are booked in advance not only minimise costs but also provide a sense of preparedness and control over travel plans.
The situation with flights to European countries continues to improve. Gorin revealed that flights can now be booked through tourist companies for 50,000-60,000 rubles for round trips.
As the Vice President explained, his country has started encouraging early bookings and sales for the winter season. Thus, discounts on tourism abroad range from ten per cent to 40 per cent.

Some of Russian tourists’ favourite EU destinations are also amongst among the 10 best European countries for summer holidays in 2024, according to the European Summer Tourism Index by SchengenVisaInfo.
