1. Working Hours and Paid Time Off
Poland follows the European standard of a 40-hour workweek, typically spread over five days. Any hours worked beyond this are considered overtime, which must be compensated either by additional pay (50–100% higher depending on the circumstances) or extra time off.
You’ll be entitled to between 20 and 26 days of paid annual leave depending on your work experience:
- 20 days if you have less than 10 years of experience.
- 26 days for those with more than 10 years of work experience.
2. Minimum Wage in Poland
Poland’s minimum wage is one of the highest in Central Europe. For 2024, the gross minimum wage is set at PLN 4,242 per month for full-time employees. The wage rate is reviewed annually by the government, ensuring fair compensation for workers.
3. Tax Rates
Poland operates a progressive income tax system:
- 12% for annual income up to PLN 120,000.
- 32% for annual income exceeding PLN 120,000.

6. Maternity and Parental Leave
Female employees are entitled to 20 weeks of maternity leave, with the possibility of extension depending on the number of children. During this period, the employee receives 100% of their salary.
Poland also offers parental leave for both parents, which can extend up to 32 weeks (or more for twins). Parental leave is paid at 60% of the salary or 80% if a combined maternity and parental leave option is chosen.
7. Sickness Leave
Employees are entitled to up to 182 days of sick leave in a year. During the first 33 days, the employer pays 80% of the salary, after which the state covers the payments.
In case of severe illness or injury, the employee may receive compensation for up to 270 days for conditions such as tuberculosis or pregnancy-related issues.
8. Pensions
Poland offers a state pension system, with a retirement age of 65 for men and 60 for women. You must have contributed to the system for at least 20 years (women) or 25 years (men) to qualify for a pension.
