More than 460 international students to receive NAWA scholarships in 2020
Would you like to study in Poland? Every year, thousands of students from all over the world apply for scholarships or academic exchange opportunities offered by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange. This time, the Agency has awarded over 460 scholarships to students of Polish descent.
More than 460 students will be awarded scholarships of the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) under The gen. Anders Programme in 2020. The programme enables young people of Polish descent (including holders of the Pole’s Card) to pursue higher education at a Polish university of their choice and to improve their Polish language skills. This year, NAWA received a record high number of applications for the scholarship from all around the world, with more than 1,500 prospective students seeking admission to the programme. According to Wojciech Maksymowicz, secretary of state at the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education, The gen. Anders Programme plays an important role in strengthening ties between the Polish diaspora and their homeland:
We offer young people of Polish descent an opportunity to choose the best universities in Poland and to complete their studies here, while developing the potential of Polish communities abroad thanks to well-educated graduates. But also those young people who will decide to remain in Poland after graduation, will enjoy better career opportunities.
This year’s beneficiaries of the NAWA scholarship come from Belarus, Brazil, Czechia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kirghizstan, Lithuania, Latvia, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. Most of the applicants decided to take up their studies at one of the top higher education institutions in Poland: the University of Warsaw, the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, SGH Warsaw School of Economics or the Warsaw University of Technology.
The scholarships under The gen. Anders Programme have been awarded for three years now - so far, more than 1,380 young people have benefited from the opportunity to study at a Polish university. Apart from The gen. Anders Programme for students of Polish descent, NAWA coordinates several other scholarship and academic exchange programmes, aiming to encourage young people from all over the world to choose Poland as a study destination.
